IDV
In many countries around the world, teachers of German, university lecturers, and researchers have joined together in associations to promote the German language through teaching, higher education, and research, and to strengthen its position. The International Association of Teachers of German (IDV) supports them in these efforts.
The IDV is an international umbrella organization of associations of teachers of German worldwide, whose purpose is to promote the German language. It represents the interests of its members—currently 98 associations from 86 countries across all continents, with the number continuing to grow—and supports the concerns of teachers of German and others working in this field. The IDV Executive Board is internationally composed and is advised in its work by experts from the German-speaking countries.
All positions on the IDV Executive Board are voluntary.
As an umbrella organization, the IDV works closely with its member associations. It connects, supports, and coordinates their activities both globally and regionally. It also offers teachers of German, lecturers, and researchers opportunities to maintain professional contacts worldwide, exchange experience and research findings, and thus contribute to high-quality German language teaching.
To this end, the IDV organizes congresses, conferences, and seminars.
These serve
• to further develop the field of German as a foreign or second language,
• to address questions relating to regional and cultural studies,
• to promote understanding among people from different cultures,
• to support the initial and continuing education of teachers of German,
• to assist teachers of German in their professional work,
• to strengthen the position of the German language.
Foremost among these activities is the International Congress of Teachers of German (IDT).
The most important results of the association’s work are published regularly on the IDV website. https://idvnetz.org/
