LiP2027 – Language is Plural: Celebrating Multilingualism in Language Education
will take place in Vienna from 26 to 29 July 2027 and will bring together two major international events:
the FIPLV World Congress and the International Delegates’ Conference of the IDV, which will take place from 26 to 28 July 2027.
The IDV Assembly of Delegates will be held on 29 July 2027.
LiP2027 is designed for language teachers, researchers, practitioners and representatives of language teacher associations from around the world. Its aim is to discuss key professional and language policy issues, to support international networking and to help shape future developments.
At the heart of LiP2027 is the motto Language is Plural. The conference is based on the understanding that multilingualism is the societal norm worldwide and that language education plays a central role in participation, educational equity and democratic culture. Discussions will focus on how language teaching and language education can recognise, value and foster multilingual repertoires, and on the pedagogical, institutional and language policy frameworks needed to achieve this.
LiP2027 is conceived as a multilingual space for professional exchange, international networking and the joint further development of research, teaching practice, teacher education and language policy. The conference invites participants to discuss current challenges and perspectives in language education in an increasingly diverse society through multilingual dialogue.
The conference is organised on behalf of the IDV and FIPLV by the Austrian Association for German as a Foreign/Second Language (ÖDaF), in cooperation with the University of Vienna. In doing so, ÖDaF builds on its long-standing experience in organising international professional events and is delighted to host the FIPLV World Congress and the International Delegates’ Conference of the IDV in Vienna in 2027.
